It's just that, in the context of a consensual D/S relationship, I also love hurting them.
It bugs me when people automatically assume that degrading sex isn’t loving. A lot of people just can’t see the beauty in destruction. Not all love manifests itself in youth and purity like Romeo and Juliet, sometimes it comes from something twisted and dark, like Frollo’s unrequited obsession with Esmerelda.
Often I equate violence with a type of passion, and I don’t think everyone sees that. Not every painting is beautiful because it’s serene and calm. There are, of course, gorgeous paintings of serenity and peace, laced with flowers and bodies of water, but how lovely it is to go beyond that, to seek the surreal, the shattered, and the ludicrous. I like good endings to movies as much as I appreciate a movie that’s daring enough to let the main character die when it just feels right to do so.
A vanilla sex life isn’t inherently better or worse than a non-vanilla sex life, I imagine. I just can’t picture myself not wanting to be both loved and destroyed, nurtured and beaten, welcomed and rejected, and be appreciated and accepted for both my serenity and my chaos. Without that need for crazy, humiliating passion, I just don’t know who I would be.
I disagree on your last point about vanilla sex not being better or worse than the more flavorful kind. Vanilla sex is just by its very nature, finite. At best it can be satisfactory. I feel that everyone has exploitable kinks, and that most people just choose to fight them for whatever reason while us brave ones embrace them.
To this, my only reply: far be it from us to judge the sex life of consenting adults, don’t you think? Judging one consensual relationship as better or worse than the other would very much make us the pot calling the kettle black.
